How To Measure Custom Fit Vertical Blinds Guide
At Blinds Downunder we have put together an explanation video and written guide on how to measure different window and door configurations for your selected Vertical Blinds. Vertical Blinds can be installed as Face Fit with architraves, Face Fit without architraves and Recess Fit. Below our video we have created a Face Fit Stack Width Calculator, refer to (Point 5) for accurate stack width calculations.
Note* When measuring Face Fit doors or windows hard to floor, do not add the optional extra bottom drop measurement — measure hard to floor. Our configurator will make the appropriate deductions automatically.

Measuring Instructions
Vertical Blind width start from 400mm-5950mm (DecoPlus Track)
Vertical Blind width start from 400mm-5750mm (Louvolite Track)
Items you will need
1)Steel Tape measure (All measurements to be documented in millimetres)
2)Print Measurement form or populate Measurement form online
3)Pen and Paper
Important notes;
1) Always document the room your blind will be installed. You may wish to sketch a plan of blind locations as reference. Hang onto both your Measurement form / sketch and file for future reference.
2)Always measure every window individually, check measurements in a minimum of three different locations, as windows can sometimes be out of square. Refer to measurement video and this specific measurement document: Face Fit, Face Fit No Architraves and Recess Fit.

3)Always measure the width measurement and then the drop measurement in that order. Make sure you write measurements to the exact millimetre. Note* if Verticals are measured hard to floor coverings with both Face (Just off Floor) and Recess Fit, our order page configurators will make the appropriate deductions, this will now be your drop measurement. Do not add the optional extra bottom drop measurement. If replacing your existing vertical blinds enter make to size.
4) Always document the side you wish your wand or chain drive to be positioned, at time of measurement.
5) Always look for any obstructions ie; door or windows opening method, door / window hardware, which may interfere with your blind’s functionality. Generally 100mm is sufficient depth for 89mm slats in recess and 136mm for 127mm slats in recess, provided there are no obstructions to fit in entire recess. However, 89mm Vertical Recess Fit blinds can fit a recess 50mm and 127mm Vertical Recess Fit blinds can fit recess 70mm. These measurements provided are a guide with an understanding that the minimum depth for the bracket may mean that the blinds and bracket project outside the window recess.
Alternative to our video guide, you can add extra width on the stack side(s), if you would like your verticals to clear the openings. The stack side is the side your would like your vertical blind to open to. Allow approximately 70mm stack per meter of vertical track. For left and right stack, measure external architrave to internal architrave, this will be your inputted calculator measurement. For centre open measure the internal architrave measurement or internal recess. This will be your inputted calculator measurement. Make sure you have enough width with the extra Vertical Blind width added. You can reduce the extra stack width should you feel the width is too much. This method is a more specific measurement guide to our video advice. Choose which method you would prefer to best suit your needs.
Vertical Blind Width Calculator
Enter your width. The calculator adds 70mm per meter for stack size to clear window or door opening.(optional)
6) Never take measurement directly from your house plans or window schedules as this will most likely not be accurate.
7) Always Triple check your measurements and Vertical blind details you have documented.
8) Our blind manufactures deduct the correct tolerances for your blinds to fit recesses. It is important to input your measurements to the exact size. It is always recommended, if you are finding it difficult to differentiate between one millimetre, you write down the lesser measurement. Please specify make to size if you are replacing existing Vertical blinds, we will not make any deductions with make to size selection.
9) Corner windows are handled different and require 100mm deducted of one blind for 89mm slats and 135mm deducted of one blind for 127mm slats.
10) If you are measuring with someone else, make sure everyone is reading the tape measure the same way, before you start measuring the entire house lot of blinds. Make sure to read all measurements out aloud and confirm measurements by repeating your assistant’s measurement, especially before writing the finalised measurements on your measurement form.
11) Once you have completed the Measurement form, transfer these details to our product selections to Vertical Blinds Selection page. Triple check the information you are entering relates to your Measurement form, as you go. Always check your information is correct prior to proceeding with purchase.
