How To Measure Custom Fit Plantation Shutters Guide
At Blinds Downunder we have put together a written guide on how to measure different window configurations for your selected premium polymer plantation shutters, that are often referred to as PVC Plantation Shutters
Items you will need 1)Steel Tape measure (All measurements to be documented in millimetres) 2)Print Measurement form or populate Measurement form online 3)Pen and Paper 1) Always document the room your shutter will be installed. You may wish to sketch a plan of blind locations as reference. Hang onto both your Measurement form/sketch and file for future reference. 2)Always measure every window individually, check measurements in a minimum of three different locations. Windows can sometimes be out of square. 3)Always measure the width measurement and then the drop measurement in that order. Make sure you write measurements to the exact millimetre. 4) Always document the Layout you have chosen for your pvc plantation shutter, at time of measurement. 5) Always look for any obstructions ie; door/window hardware, which may interfere with your blind's functionality. With recess fit make sure you have minimum 70mm depth for Z Profile and 75mm for L profile. 6) Never take measurement directly from your house plans or window schedules as this will most likely not be accurate. 7) Always Triple check your measurements and blind details you have documented. 8) Our pvc plantation manufactures deduct the correct tolerances for your shutters to fit. It is important to input your measurements to the exact size. It is always recommended if you are finding it difficult to differentiate between one millimetre, you write down the lesser measurement. 9)Corner and bay windows are handled different refer to our how to measure corner window and deductions. This will be a custom order, please contact us. 10) If you are measuring with someone else, make sure everyone is reading the tape measure the same way, before you start measuring the entire house lot of shutters. Make sure to read all measurements out aloud and confirm measurements by repeating your assistant's measurement, especially before writing the finalised measurements on your measurement form. 11) Once you have completed the Measurement form, transfer these details to our pvc plantation shutter product selection page. The L frame is 38mm wide and requires a flat wall/architrave to fix to. For Face Fit with architraves: Measure width at the top, middle, and bottom - use the largest width measurement. Measure height on the left, centre, and right - use the largest drop measurement. For Face Fit without architraves: Measure width at the top, middle, and bottom of the inside of the window opening - use the smallest width measurement. Measure height on the left, centre, and right - use the smallest drop measurement. Add an extra 76mm to the width and 76mm to the drop for the L frame thickness to clear most of the opening. Check there are no obstructions that may interfere with your louvre operation. Shutters fit inside the window recess. Measure the exact width and drop (height) of the recess. We will make appropriate deductions for fitting clearance. Make sure you have minimum 70mm depth for Z Profile and 75mm for L profile. Make sure you have no obstructions in your recess, to affect the operation of your shutters. If your window frame measurements vary by more than 6mm, we recommend choosing the Z frame to hide the discrepancies. For Recess Fit: Measure width at the top, middle, and bottom - use the smallest width measurement. Measure height on the left, centre, and right - use the smallest drop measurement. What is a mid rail? The horizontal bar that divides your shutter panels (usually aligned with window mullions). Measure from very bottom point to the middle of the mullion (b) (Preferred Double Mid Rail heights). What is a T-Post? The vertical divider that splits wide shutters into separate panels. Allows each panel to operate independently and provides structural support. One T-post: Measure from the left point to the middle of your T-post Two T-posts:Measuring Instructions
