How to Install Custom Fit Polymer Plantation Shutters Guide
At Blinds Downunder we have put together a PDF explanation guide on how to install your selected custom fit polymer plantation shutters, often referred to as PVC Plantation Shutters.
Items Required to install your Custom Fit Polymer Plantation Shutters
- Pencil to mark holes in fixing position. (we recommend to use a good quality painters tape to prevent marks on your shutter frame).
- Drill with selected long series drill bit for pilot holes (Test pilot hole size is correct on sample material.
- If drilling into masonry we suggest testing one masonry hole is correct for Green plugs prior to drilling all holes) You may require different drill bits depending on different materials. Consult your qualified local hardware for further assistance if required.
- Phillips head screwdriver or Phillips head drill attachment, whichever is preferred.
- Fixing screws may be required to fix frames if screws supplied are not adequate. (Note*: Screws are supplied by Blinds Downunder, but may not be correct due to the different nature with fixing to different materials.) As a rough guide we recommend;
- For timber reveals we recommend timber screws for face and recess fit timber or MDF architraves
- For steel we would recommend self-tapping screws for aluminium or steel fixings
- We do not recommend fixing shutters directly to plasterboard only, without proper support. Blinds Downunder only recommends fixing to solid substrates behind plaster ie; Timber noggins, Timber/steel lintels or Timber or steel studs.
- Green Plugs and appropriate screws for masonry fixing, as guided by qualified local hardware store.
- Drilling tiles requires care and can sometimes cause your tiles to crack when drilled. You will need to work out the best approach based on your specific application.
You may require additional assistance to help installing bigger shutters.
We recommend if you are unsure, that you take photos of install area and discuss with your qualified local hardware store for further detailed advice regarding fixing options. Blinds Downunder takes no responsibility for poor fixing or damage caused by incorrect installations.
